Types of Unemployment As Americans we hear a copious amount about the term â€Å"unemployed.† Which, as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, are â€Å"people who do not have a job, have actively looked for work in the past four weeks, and are currently available for work.† Unemployment can exists for many possible reasons. Such as, when offered a job, sometimes it becomes obvious to the potential employee that the job is not in their best interest. Also, changes in the business cycle can lead to unemployment because when sales decrease, the economy slides into a decline, and employers are required to lay off workers, therefore unemployment grows. As made known by the third edition of CoreMacroeconomics, â€Å"Separating different types of unemployment into distinct categories will help us apply unemployment figures to our own analysis of the economy.† These categories of unemployment come in three forms: frictional, structural, and cyclical. Each form of unemployment comes with their very own origin, results, and repercussions. Knowing this, makes understanding the concept of unemployment plenty simpler. Remember when you were in high school and you got your first job as a cashier at your local Mcdonald’s?
